Review: Black Cake

Black Cake Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Black Cake is a novel full of emotional journey that works through missed chances, things left unsaid, and finding closure amidst a sea of loss and regret. It follows the story of Coventina or Covey as she swim her way out of her marriage and village. As she struggle to find a good place to stay, she met people and find her way to the love of her life Gibbs Grant. Covey and Gibbs changed their life by changing their name and lived happily with two children. Truths told after their mother died. Her past, her first born child and her sickness.

A well written emotional book. The hard truth of the past. Gender, Race, Ethnicities that makes life hard on those early days. Miscommunications and pride that leads to regret. Unsaid words and untold story of a mother to her children. 4/5

Review: Ruthless Vows

Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross My rating: 4 of 5 stars Ruthless Vows, the last book of duology. The writing is exceptional and the plot is well thought of. The beginning was a bit slow in my opinion but other than that it was a page turner! Though I was expecting more it was a good book for a duology. “Write me a story where there is no ending, Kitt. Write to me and fill my empty spaces.” View all my reviews
